When there are available fotser parents within a 2 hour drive, but in a different county, it seems ridiculous there isn't more readily a plan for cooperation between and among counties so placements can occur. Granted the stresses of caseloads, paperwork, and cooperating with other agencies involved leaves little room for creative solution making, it seems in the best interest of the child, there could be some sharing of resources to better meet the needs of the child once the decision to remove the child has been made.

Hello Toni,
Thanks, on a related note, So many people intrigued in a medical-related profession are routinely not informed of the discipline of Occupational Treatment. A vocation as an Occupational Therapist is equally personally and monetarily fulfilling. Occupational Therapists support sufferers with a huge number of illnesses that feature developmental disabilities, coaching sufferers with long term disabilities to make the most of adaptive gear, motor abilities rehabilitation, repair service small expression memory decline, bettering determination making, as very well as putting together and implementing rehabilitation policies and evaluating a patient's development. Basically, Occupational Treatment is a sort of therapy that facilitates folk return to their former occupations.
Good Job!

Actually the foster-care system itself is a lot like musical chairs. A child can be moved around between several different foster families in a short period of time. Traditionally when a child is moved (from one home to another) they are told (by the caseworker) that they were not wanted in the home they are being moved out of. Caseworkers claim this helps the child better adjust to the new home. Does anyone really believe that? Imagine that every home that the child is in treats them good. And acts like they want them there. This could lead to the child being suspicious of everyone who tries to treat them good.

Michael,

Thanks for the comment. I agree that it can be difficult to maintain a spirit of cooperation when there is so much work to do and so little time and money to meet the needs of foster care.

Thank you Dr. Heineman for reminding us all of the perils child welfare caseworkers have to deal with on a daily basis and how much is demanded of them. With further budgetary cutbacks many of these caseworkers are also now in jeopardy of losing their jobs in addition to their already demanding and overwhelming caseloads. What a "No-win" situation. For those of us who also work with foster children perhaps we can be the one bright spot for these overworked and under-appreciated caseworkers. When we work to collaborate, help problem solve and most importantly help create a team environment, where we encourage, but also challenge one another for the betterment of children in foster care.
