APRIL NEWSLETTER 2018

It is important, especially during this era when we are bombarded with so much troubling news, that we keep in mind that our country is filled with compassionate, engaged and hard-working women and men who are bringing love and hope to those in need. You are among these exemplary citizens, and our communities are blessed by your presence. Thank you for your generosity.  - David Simpson

We’re excited to announce a promotion for Rene’ Fay to Manager of Development of Clinical Chapters. She’ll be working more closely with all the Clinical Director’s to help develop and manage their chapters.  Our plan is to assume as many administrative tasks as we can in the home office. Rene will also manage continuing education, intakes, and outreach.

Melinda Grey is an artist and entrepreneur who is helping us to increase the number of youth we serve, to fundraise and to do all manner of other tasks as they arrive. Melinda was, herself, a foster child and has a keen desire to contribute to this community.

Dr. Saralyn Ruff, as many of you know, has been a key supporter of A Home Within through the significant research her team has performed on our services. While we only get her a few hours a month, we are delighted to have her support the growth of our chapters in the Bay Area.

We are also delighted to announce the formation of a new Chapter in Greenfield, MA, thanks to charisma and dedication of our Northampton Clinical Directors Sally Popper and Karen Zilberstein.

ANNUAL MEETING @ Farleigh Dickinson in Teaneck, NJ.

We’re happy to announce we’ll be holding our Annual Meeting this year at Farleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.  The meeting will be held on Sept 14, 15, and 16th.  We’re in the middle of planning all the details and we’d love for you to save the date!  We strongly urge all of you to come join us!

We are very pleased to let you know that Diane Ehrensaft – the acclaimed author of The Gender Creative Child and long time A Home Within Board Member and supporter - has generously agreed to make a presentation – in the form of a Continuing Education class.

We are going to open up Diane’s presentation to any clinician who would like to attend, and we appreciate any help you can offer to publicize this opportunity among your professional colleagues. All attendees will receive 4 CEs from this workshop and will also have the opportunity to network with AHW members. We expect that many of these newcomers will follow your lead and decide to join us as volunteers.

MORE CONTINUING EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES ARE HERE!

A Home Within is pleased to announce that it has obtained all the needed accreditation from all the relevant accreditation associations to offer continuing education units for all licensed psychologists, marriage and family therapists, social workers,  and professional counselors!  We will be working diligently with each chapter to offer one (if not more) CE workshops worth 4 CEs at no cost to our A Home Within volunteers.  This is an opportunity to earn 16 free CEs. We want to thank all of our staff members, especially René Fay, who put in a great deal of effort to achieve this result.

We’d like to thank our following Clinical Directors and Chapters for holding the following events and workshops:

• Philadelphia 3/16 Introduction to Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT).

• Sonoma consultation group 1/16 - 6/12 An Exploration of The Myriad Effects of Trauma Reading: The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk.
