Cognitive Development

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

Our second section is on Cognitive Development through ages 5 to 12. We focus on language development, problem solving skills, and abstract thinking, and go over how these develop in mainstream children.

We’ll then move on to the effects of trauma on cognitive development.

We will follow these introductory sections with a discussion on ways to promote cognitive development -beginning with the use of physicality and movement, then thinking, relationships, and lastly, feelings. You’ll come to understand that trauma affects all aspects of development—those that we can see on the body and those that are buried deep in the mind and brain.
