We connect people who have experienced foster care with with a licensed therapist
to provide open-ended, individual psychotherapy, free of charge.
After submitting a referral to A Home Within, our team will review your information to determine eligibility for services with a volunteer therapist. If eligible, you will be contacted to complete an intake assessment to ensure our model is a good fit for your therapeutic goals. Once your intake is complete, we’ll begin matching you with therapists based on your preferences and clinical needs. When volunteer therapists are available, you’ll receive a list of therapists to contact directly. If there’s a wait, we’ll keep you informed with monthly updates.
All volunteers donate one 50-minute therapy session per week, either in-person or virtually, in a private practice setting. They do not provide continuous crisis intervention, emergency services, intensive outpatient services, after-hours support, court reports, ESA letters, family therapy, care coordination, and/or complex case management services.
My intuition and my discernment is something that is held in high regard in our work together. That’s something I wasn’t used to. I’m used to receiving the treatment and something being done to me.
