Privacy Policy

The following Privacy Policy describes how A Home Within (and our affiliates) collects, uses, and discloses information that we receive from visitors to our website (https://www.ahomewithin.org/) or mobile application (collectively the “Site”), and the services available on or through the Site, including in connection with volunteer applications and online trainings (together with the Site, the “Services”). Please note that we do not knowingly collect individually identifiable health information or other (prospective) client information through the Services. Moreover, the Services do not include therapy sessions with our clients. A separate agreement governs client information and therapy sessions.

This Privacy Policy is subject to the Terms and Conditions, which govern your use of the Services. If you do not agree to the Terms and this Privacy Policy, you should not use the Services.

1. Personal Information We Collect

We may collect, use, store, and, in some cases, share different types of information that identifies you as a user of the Services, and other information we associate with it, including:

Identity Information. This includes contact details and identity information that you provide to us when you apply to volunteer, sign up for our communications, refer a prospective client for therapy, or participate in one of our online trainings. These data may include your name, mailing address, email address, and telephone number, contact preferences, contact or authentication data, date of birth, gender identity, marital status, employment status, state of residence within the last five years, foster care experience, and other similar information.

Volunteer Information. The psychotherapy volunteer application also gives you the opportunity to share further details about yourself, such as date of birth, gender identity, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, and spoken language. We may also collect information about your professional background, experience and interests, such as professional license, liability insurance, criminal background check, areas of expertise (e.g. adolescents), age group preference, and volunteer availability. We use this information to help us match prospective volunteers with clients.

Professional Information. We may collect information such as your state of licensure and license number when you participate in any of our continuing education courses or other trainings, for instance, in order to provide you with certificates of completion.

Communication Information. This includes our communications with you, such as if you sign up for our newsletter or engage with us on social media, as well as your interests, preferences, feedback, and survey responses. This does not include any confidential information you may share with us about a current or prospective client.

Referral Information. This includes information about a potential client that you refer to A Home Within.

Donation Information. This includes information about your transactions with us, such as donation history and related financial information.

Information Automatically Collected: This includes passively collected technical data, such as your internet protocol (IP) address, login data, browser type and version, time zone setting and general location, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform, language preferences, referring URLs, device name, information about how and when you use our Website and other technical information, and other technology on the device(s) that you use to access the Services This information does not reveal your specific identity (like your name or contact information). This information is primarily needed to maintain the security and operation of our Website, and for our internal analysis and reporting purposes.

Location Information: We collect location data such as information about your device’s location, which can be either precise or imprecise. How much information we collect depends on the type and settings of the device you use to access the Website. For example, we may use GPS and other technologies to collect geolocation data that tells us your current location (based on your IP address). You can opt out of allowing us to collect this information either by refusing access to the information or by disabling your Location setting on your device. Note however, if you choose to opt out, you may not be able to use certain aspects of the Services.

Usage Information. This includes information about how you use the Services, such as the amount of time you spend on a particular page.

2 . How We Collect Personal Information

We use different methods to collect information from and about you, including:

Direct Interactions. We collect most information directly from you, when you apply to volunteer, make a donation, participate in an event or training, fill out forms or correspond with us through the Services, by mail, phone, email, social media, or otherwise.

Third Parties. We may receive personal information about you from various third parties, such as when you authorize us to run a background check on your behalf so that you can volunteer with us.

We may also receive Technical and Usage Information about you from third party analytics and advertising providers, and Identity and Communication Information from social media platforms when you engage with us on social media or interact with social plugins on the Services.

Automated Technologies or Interactions. As you interact with the Services, we automatically collect Technical and Usage Information about your equipment, browsing actions, and patterns. As described further below, we use third-party analytics providers and technologies, including cookies and similar technologies, to assist in collecting this information.

Cookies and Similar Technologies. We collect information about your use of the Services through the use of Internet server logs, cookies and/or tracking pixels. A web server log is a file where website activity is stored. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your computer when you visit a website, that enables us to: (i) recognize your computer; (ii) store your preferences and settings; (iii) understand the web pages of the Site you have visited; (iv) enhance your user experience by delivering content and advertisements specific to your inferred interests; (v) perform searches and analytics; and (vi) assist with security administrative functions. We also may include tracking pixels and web beacons in email messages, newsletters, and other electronic communications to determine whether the message has been opened and for other analytics, personalization, and promotional purpose. You can set your browser to block all or some cookies, or to alert you when websites set or access cookies. If you disable or refuse cookies, please note that some parts of the Services may become inaccessible or not function properly.

Analytics. We use Google Analytics to collect and analyze the information discussed above, and to engage in auditing, research and development, or reporting. The information (including your IP address) collected by various analytics technologies will be disclosed to or collected directly by these service providers, who use the information to evaluate your use of the Services, including by noting the third-party website from which you arrive, analyzing usage trends, assisting with fraud prevention, and providing certain features to you. 3. How We Use Personal Information.

As permitted by law, we may use your personal information for the following purposes:

  1. To fulfill the purpose for which you provided the information to us or to our service provider, such as to register you for a training session, provide a certificate of completion, or consider your volunteer application
  2. To respond to your requests or to send you communications about A Home Within
  3. To provide and alert you to training, workshop, or volunteer opportunities that may be of interest to you
  4. To provide and improve the Services and features
  5. To conduct surveys and analyze trends and interests
  6. For research and reporting
  7. To comply with legal or regulatory obligations
  8. To send you marketing and promotional communications. We and/or our third-party marketing partners may use the personal information you send to us for our marketing purposes, if this is in accordance with your marketing preferences. For example, when expressing an interest in obtaining information about us or our Website, subscribing to marketing or otherwise contacting us, we will collect personal information from you. You can opt-out of our marketing emails at any time (see the “What Are Your Choices and Rights?” below).
  9. Deliver targeted advertising to you. We may use your information to develop and display personalized content and advertising (and work with third parties who do so) tailored to your interests and/or location and to measure its effectiveness.
  10. To enforce the Terms and Conditions that govern your use of the Services or to protect the security or integrity of the Services;
  11. To administer, personalize, and troubleshoot the Services
  12. For other business purposes. We may use your information for other business purposes, such as data analysis, identifying usage trends, determining the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns and to evaluate and improve our Website, products, marketing and your experience. We may use and store this information in aggregated and anonymized form so that it is not associated with individual end users and does not include personal information. We will not use identifiable personal information without your consent.

4. When and How We Disclose Personal Information

As permitted by law, we may share your personal information with the parties set out below.

Service Providers. We may share personal information with our third party service providers, such as professional advisers (lawyers, accountants, auditors, insurers, etc.); payment processing vendors; providers of information technology services; and advertising or analytics providers.

Clients. If you volunteer as a clinician, then we may share Identity and Volunteer Information with a client or prospective client.

Third Parties. When you elect to participate in certain co-sponsored or co-hosted programs, we may share your enrollment information with the program’s co-sponsor(s). In addition, and as described above, we may share certain Technical and Usage Information with third party advertising and data analytics providers. We may allow selected third parties to use tracking technology on the Website, which will enable them to collect data on our behalf about how you interact with our Website over time. This information may be used to, among other things, analyze and track data, determine the popularity of certain content, pages or features, and better understand online activity. Unless described in this notice, we do not share, sell, rent or trade any of your information with third parties for their promotional purposes. To the extent that a program’s rules concerning the treatment of your personal information are stricter than this Privacy Policy, those rules will apply.

We collect and share your personal information through:

Business Partners: We may share your information with our business partners to offer you certain products, services or promotions.

Legal. We may disclose personal information if, in our opinion, such disclosure is required: (i) by law; (ii) to protect and/or defend our rights; and/or (iii) to protect the personal safety of you or another individual.

In Cases of Mergers and Acquisitions. We may share personal information with third parties (and their advisors) in the event of any reorganization, merger, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer or other disposition of all or any portion of our business, assets or stock (including in connection with any bankruptcy or similar proceedings).

5. Your Choices and Rights

Opting Out of Marketing Communications. You may ask us to stop sending you our newsletter or other marketing messages by following the unsubscribe link in any such email message. If you opt out, we may still send you other important communications about us or the Services.

Update Your Information. Please contact us at admin@ahomewithin.org if you would like to update your contact information, for instance, if your email address has changed.

6. Do Not Track

We do not currently monitor or respond to “Do Not Track” signals because there is no standard interpretation or practice for such signals.

7. Children

We do not knowingly collect personal information through the Services from children under age 13. If you are under the age of 13, please do not give us any personal information. If a parent or guardian believes that a child’s personal information was inadvertently collected, please contact us at admin@ahomewithin.org and we will take reasonable steps to delete it as soon as practicable.

8. Third Party Sites

The Services may link to third party websites, other online Services, or social media platforms, and such links are provided for your convenience only. For example, A Home Within may reference books for sale on third party websites. If you decide to access any of the third party sites or services linked from the Services, you do so subject to the terms and conditions of use and privacy policies of those third parties.

9. Information Security

We have put in place reasonable security measures to protect against personal information from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered, or disclosed, and to ensure the integrity and security of our Services. However, we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please also be aware that no transmission over the Internet can be completely secure. You assume the risk of sending any information to us, over the Internet.

10. Retention

We will retain your personal information for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted for legal, auditing, or compliance purposes.

11. Updates to this Privacy Policy

We may periodically update this Privacy Policy. Any changes to this Privacy Policy will become effective when we post the revised Privacy Policy. To the extent permitted by law, your use of the Services following these changes means that you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
