This integrating session addresses the ethical terrain of applying a protection-informed stance with foster youth. It teaches non-pathologizing clinical documentation — describing protective behavior as adaptive rather than as “manipulative” or “poor insight,” language that follows a child through placements, clinicians, and courts — and how to hold mandated-reporting and safety obligations transparently without turning the therapeutic relationship into an interrogation. Grounded in Edery's (2019) article and The U-Model™, it equips clinicians serving foster youth to hold a child's safety and honesty at once, and to practice with ethical humility given that clinician confidence in detecting deception is not correlated with accuracy.

This course is eligible for 2 continuing education credits.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Apply a transparent approach to mandated-reporting obligations that preserves therapeutic safety with foster youth.

2. Integrate the series' framework into an ethical stance that holds a foster youth's safety and honesty simultaneously.
