What is your favorite part about volunteering with A Home Within?

Alexandra: I love the community I get to be a part of. As a private practice clinician, I don’t have many colleagues, and I feel tremendously supported by my peers here. As an adoptee myself, it feels extra meaningful that I get to be part of the steadfast commitment to healing and wonderful positivity that A Home Within brings to not just my city, but the whole country!

Why did you decide to join A Home Within?

Alexandra: I thought about what I would want and need if I were in the situation that A Home Within works to touch, and it clicked. A Home Within gives me the honor of being a therapist who can bypass the red tape, and meet a client as human-to-human.

How has your work with A Home Within impacted you personally, professionally, or otherwise?

Alexandra: Well, I love bragging about this organization. Any time it comes up in conversation, I am always touched by how genuinely interested people are, and how often they are moved by the mission here.

What would you say to someone considering volunteering with A Home Within?

Alexandra: Stop thinking about it! Just do it!

What do you think would surprise people most about the work A Home Within does?

Alexandra: Research has shown that people part of the adoption and foster care community often require a long-term therapeutic relationship to meet their mental health goals. When A Home Within says “as long as it takes”, that is a literal promise, because they understand this reality. Clients with us can continue therapy for years if they need to—as long as it takes! To my knowledge, this is fully unique to A Home Within. People are often shocked to hear that this is their policy! That fact makes me so proud to be part of it.
