A Home Within has given me the opportunity to help someone who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford long term treatment.

How and when did you first get involved with A Home Within, and why were you drawn to it?
Ana

I joined A Home Within in 2012. I was looking for a way to use my skills and training to give something back. I often see psychotherapy as sitting right on this line between necessity and luxury and it bothered me that I was treating mostly very privileged people. A Home Within has given me the opportunity to help someone who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford long term treatment.

I would say that giving someone access to this kind of deep, meaningful work is a special and important use of your resources.

As you know, we are celebrating both the inspiring history and promising future of A Home Within. Where do you hope to see A Home Within headed in the future? What would you like to see happen?
Ana

I would love to see other kinds of practitioners get on board– psychiatrists, acupuncturists, breathwork specialists, etc.

What is the most special part about A Home Within to you?
Ana

The opportunity to really be there for someone for “as long as it takes”

It has pushed me to deepen my understanding of complex trauma and its intersection with systemic, societal oppression.
