What's a fun fact about you?

Emily: I always gravitate toward movie character villains being my kindred spirits and the voices of my internal monologue. Yzma from the Emperor's New Groove is my absolute favorite character followed closely by the Grinch.

What is your favorite part about volunteering with A Home Within?

Emily: Being able to provide a deeply impacted service for free to folks who need it the most is incredibly rewarding.

Why did you decide to join A Home Within?

Emily: Finding a therapist under the best circumstances is challenging, so once I heard about the organization, I knew that I needed to join to try in a small way to ease the burden for someone. I worked with children and families in foster care for many years and when I moved to a different area, I wanted to stay connected to this very important and vulnerable population, so joining felt like a no-brainer.

How has your work with A Home Within impacted you personally, professionally, or otherwise?

Emily: Personally, I feel enriched knowing and working with my client each week. Professionally, I have met so many talented therapists and benefit regularly from consultation with folks from all different backgrounds all working toward the same goal.

What would you say to someone considering volunteering with A Home Within?

Emily: It's a genuinely rewarding experience to be able to provide this service for free to some of the folks who need it most. The connection to the consultation group has been a wonderful experience-like the cherry on top of an already positive experience.

What do you think would surprise people most about the work A Home Within does?

Emily: They take on clients of all ages regardless of current foster care status.
