Tabitha Azor, LMFT, has been volunteering with us since 2021 by providing free therapy to a former foster youth and free, quality CE trainings to our volunteers. She is also an active participant in our Building Practice in Community (BPIC) program.

What's a fun fact about you?
Tabitha: I am highly creative and passionate about working with my hands, transforming everyday raw materials into something practical or even a masterpiece.
What is your favorite part about volunteering with A Home Within?
Tabitha: My favorite part about volunteering with A Home Within is seeing the positive changes in the lives of the foster adult i serve. It's incredibly rewarding to build trusting relationships and witness their growth and resilience over time. Every small victory feels like a shared achievement, and it reminds me why I chose to be a part of this incredible organization.
Why did you decide to join A Home Within?
Tabitha: I decided to join A Home Within because I've always felt a strong calling to impact the foster care system positively. When I came across their mission through a Facebook post, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to make a difference. I’m so glad I followed that instinct because it’s been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life.
How has your work with A Home Within impacted you personally, professionally, or otherwise?
Tabitha: Volunteering with A Home Within has deepened my empathy and understanding of the unique challenges foster youth face. Personally, it's been a humbling experience that has made me more patient and compassionate. Professionally, it has enhanced my ability to connect with people on a deeper level, which has positively influenced my work as a therapist.
What would you say to someone considering volunteering with A Home Within?
Tabitha: I would say, if you’re considering volunteering with A Home Within, do it! It’s a chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of foster youth, while also growing in ways you never expected. The organization provides excellent support, and you’ll be part of a community that truly cares about creating lasting change.
What do you think would surprise people most about the work A Home Within does?
Tabitha: I think people would be surprised by how deeply A Home Within invests in the long-term well-being of foster youth/adults as well as the therapists. It’s not just about providing temporary support; it’s about creating enduring, consistent, meaningful relationships that help these young individuals build a strong foundation for their futures. The free CE program ensures that those who serve are increasing their skills which in turn benefits the clients.
